Having dominated the golfing scene in the years shortly afterMcIlroy threatened to become the next transcendent star after Tiger Woods, earning a lucrative partnership with EA Sports and achieving wonderful success on the course.
One could consider the holy grail of all professional sports being an amateur contending at or even possibly winning the Masters. It's a romantic idea that often fills the minds of not only young, penniless golfers pursuing the game but those who follow and watch it as well. Part of that is likely because of the mystique Bobby Jones left behind as part of his legacy which also included the creation of Augusta Nationalbut another of it is because of how rarely amateurs are truly elite. Think about this: How many amateurs have won a football or basketball national championship? Thousands, right? But fewer than have won a U.
Masters ranking the six talented amateurs in the november field at augusta national
Of the 88 players in the Masters field, only one can complete a career grand slam with a victory. Rory McIlroy is only missing a green jacket from his of major championships, as the Irishman is 0-for at Augusta National.
McIlroy has been competitive with six top finishes over his last seven Masters, but he hasn't been able to get over the hump. He will get another chance for that all-elusive victory when the Masters tees off Thursday.
Masters odds: surprising pga picks, predictions from advanced model that nailed six golf majors
Like McIlroy, those three are also all searching for their first green jacket. Before locking in any Masters picks, be sure to see the Masters predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.
That was one of many huge calls he's made in the past few months. The model had him in the top five from the start and McClure's best bets included Garcia winning outright.
He also finished profitable at the U. This same model has also nailed a whopping six majors entering the weekend, including Patrick Reed's win at Augusta in Anyone who has followed its golf picks has seen massive returns. Now that the Masters field is taking shape, SportsLine simulated the event 10, times, and the were surprising.
Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard. Open champion and one of the top favorites, barely cracks the top DeChambeau has been one of the hottest players on tour this season, finishing on top of the leaderboard at the U.
Open and Arnold Palmer Invitational.
The eight-time PGA Tour champion continues to crush the ball off the tee, averaging over yards per drive this season, which ranks first on tour. DeChambeau's length off the tee also has him ranked in the top 10 in birdie average, scoring average and strokes gained tee-to-green.
However, DeChambeau is hitting fewer than 60 percent of fairways off the tee, which can cause plenty of trouble at Augusta National. That was evident in DeChambeau's last start at the Masters, when he finished 34th. DeChambeau, who's never finished better than 29th at Augusta National, is not a strong pick to win it all and there are far better values in the Masters field.
Another surprise: Xander Schauffele, a long shot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday.
Two years ago at Augusta National, Schauffele led the field with 25 birdies, which made him just the third player since to have more than two-dozen in a single Masters. He also shot under from Friday to Sunday, which was the best in the field.
Schauffele ranks 10th on tour in strokes gained putting. With the fast greens at Augusta National, Schauffele should be among your Masters bets, according to the model. The model is targeting four other golfers with odds higher than to make a strong run at the title.
Anyone who backs these underdogs could hit it big. You can only see them here.
